An old friend died.
I attended his memorial service today and was struck by the contrast of a memorial so close to the holiday season. He passed away December 23rd at his home. He was 5 years younger than I am. His brother is a cancer survivor and a lot of our friends and family seemed to have aged over the years....

Last year I wrote: (Comments from now-the future- in red) New Year’s Eve will be or is now receding in our collective rear view mirrors and we grimly face the year ahead. What is in store for us? (If only we had known!) Will anything really change? (Hey, wait a minute, I wonder of the Obama campaign...

Golly Wally, can we watch Two and a half Men?
What would Ward and June Cleaver think of the hit sitcom starring Charlie Sheen? They would probably, well, er, uhm, make #2 in their pants! Can you see Ward making jokes about prostitutes, drinking and nuts? No, not the Planters variety, the crotch variety, specifically, male crotch variety. I just...

Nostradamus I ain’t
As the New Year approaches, get ready for all those “year in review” shows. We should also be mindful that the coming year will test us in ways we may not even know yet. Look for the debate over Global Warming to heat up in the rush to solve the economic crisis. It will be argued that it costs too...

A brief history of Santa Clause.
In the beginning there was no Santa Clause. There were only Adam and Eve and they were Jehovah’s Witnesses so there were no gifts. Soon after, they procreated, (which they did like pros, naturally) and then there were children who rebelled (yeah, I know you’re thinking rebels without a Clause -...

Headlines and thoughts about them
How we can protect ourselves from asteroids. I’m thinking maybe cover your umbrella with tin-foil, that ought to keep the sneaky buggers at bay. Man using blowtorch to melt snow sets fire to own home. Well, that’s one way to increase demand in the housing market. Didn’t he see the instructions, “do...

Not really the news sort of
It was cold today! How cold was it? Take a look at this photo I took this morning just before sun up. Yes, that is a negative 17.0 degrees you see. I went down to the mailbox and got the Saturday paper. When I came into the house, I accidentally dropped the paper and it was so cold, all the print...

Digital what?
Television is about to change. This will change everything. Of course unless you live in a cave you know I’m talking about the impending change of broadcast T.V. to a digital signal. When is it? Oh yes, imprinted on my brain - it is February 17, 2009. By now you know what to do. Invest in books! No,...

The office Christmas party, illustrated.
My wife’s office did not skip out on the Christmas party. We were lucky, it was a great time and an adventure to boot. You see, we live in the great state of Washington (no, not the D.C.) where it is currently winter or at least, very close to it. Friday evening we got six to ten inches of snow,...

Much Humbuggery about nothing
Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas, you decide. Every year at this time, there are those few “special” people who make a big issue of the Holiday vs. Christmas debate. Atheists boycott stores that have Christmas displays and the self righteous boycott stores that have Holiday displays. You see I have...
